Family Fitness Ideas During The Frosty Months! Fun Winter Fitness!

It Might be cold OUTSIDE, But that is no reason to skip your healthy does of physical ACTIVITY. When its too cold for outdoor play you can try some of these indoor activities to get your hearts beating and blood flowing to maintain youe healthy living. And keep snacking healthy with the GREAT Kids Snack Box!

9 IDEAS FOR FROSTY FAMILY FITNESS

Baby, it’s cold outside. But winter weather shouldn’t stop you and your family from getting the recommended 60 minutes a day of physical activity – especially when there are plenty of ideas for indoor exercises that will keep your little munchkins moving! Here are some to try:
1. Try D.I.Yoga. That’s do-it-yourself yoga. Resources abound for tips on how to lead your own yoga class, so why not learn together as a family? Pull out some beach towels from summer storage and warm up those chilly bones with deep stretches that not only help build physical strength but calm the mind as well. Here are some other tips that’ll help you and your family do yoga safely together.
2. Start a Dance Party. Most families have some signature moves, and sooner or later, everyone follows in their mother’s and father’s footsteps! Whether it’s doing the mashed potato to golden oldies, boogying to 70s hits, line dancing to country riffs, or pumping and jumping to pop and rock tracks, dancing to good music never goes out of style. Need some inspiration? Here are 10 Tunes to Keep You Going!
3. Plan an Obstacle Course. Kids love to build forts with stuff from around the house. Expand their imaginations by building an obstacle course. Throw in suggestions like “do 15 jumping jacks in the corner” or “hop on one foot from here to there” and you’ll have calisthenics covered. Try timing your little training camp cadets so they can track their agility improvements.
4. Practice Off-Season Sports. The best athletic abilities are acquired through three things: practice, practice, practice. In households with an unfinished basement or a room that is sparsely furnished, encourage your kids to develop skills in a favorite sport such as soccer footwork, basketball dribbling, lacrosse cradling, or hand-eye coordination with a softball or racket. Just be sure to remove the valuables first!
5. Sign Up at the YMCA or for Charity Miles. Your local Y likely has an agenda that’s as packed with cold-weather activities as Santa’s sack will be with toys. Find your Y here and see what’s in store for your community or grab the family and some friends and bike, walk, or run for the charity of your choice with Charity Miles! You’ll be doing your body good for a good cause. It’s a win-win!

Kids Who Can Easily Detect Sugar Are More Likely to Be Obese

Kids Who Can Easily Detect Sugar Are More Likely to Be Obese, Study Says

A new study published online in Nursing Research links sugar-sensitivity to obesity in children.

Does your kid have a serious sweet tooth? That could mean that she is sugar-sensitive—or able to detect sugar even at low concentrations.
A new study by the Monell Center found that youngsters who can easily taste sugar are actually more likely to be obese, which is not what researchers had originally predicted.
Researchers had first hypothesized that heavier children would be less sensitive to sugar and, therefore, need higher concentrations of sugar to be satisfied—but their assumption was proved wrong.
The study published online in Nursing Research found that "children having more body fat were more sensitive to sugar and were able to detect a sweet taste at lower concentrations of sucrose," said lead author Paule Valery Joseph, PhD, in a press release.
To draw conclusions, researchers measured each child's "sweet taste threshold." In order to determine this, over 200 healthy kids between the ages of 7 and 14 were given two drinks. One cup contained distilled water while the other contained a sugar solution. After consumption, children were asked about the liquids' taste, and the lowest distinguishable sugar concentration was deemed the child's "sweet taste threshold."
"The most sensitive child required the equivalent of only 0.005 teaspoon of sugar dissolved in a cup of water to detect sweetness," according to the press release. "Whereas the least sensitive needed three teaspoons to get the same sensation."
Notably, kids who were most sugar-sensitive also often showed a gene variant that can make them more sensitive to bitter tastes as well.

You won’t get a better box than GREAT Kids Snacks if you’re looking for healthy, organic fun. Each day is a new snack for the entire month. I would rather give my daughter a snack out of this box than the ones I find on the shelves at the store. Although you can find these at the store in regular boxes, I would prefer the element of surprise for my daughter since she gets to sample something from each company you see above.
The box I reviewed came with something from each of those companies you see. My daughter was more than ecstatic. She was over the moon enjoyed with each snack she was able to pick out of the box every day and enjoy. If we missed a day, she would just pick two and continue on from there. These are small snack sizes that you can take anywhere with you, and some are even in handy travel packages so they don’t spill everywhere.
GREAT Kids Snacks makes every day even more enjoyable for my daughter. She loves to get a snack every day and loves to show it off for the camera as well. You can see below a small compilation of a few photos from her first week of snacks.
