A Healthy Childhood Leads To A Healthy Life!
A new study out says just more than half of U.S. adults are diabetic or are pre-diabetic, and one doctor is urging people to take care of their health when they're young.
Illini Community Hospital Dr. Chris Wagoner says type 2 diabetes generally develops later in life, due to obesity and inactivity. Wagoner says the earlier people are able to develop healthy habits, the better off they'll be later in life. He says parents need to set examples.
"If mom and dad, grandma and grandpa have been eating poorly over time, those are your eating habits," Wagoner said.
Wagoner says kids should eat healthy and exercise regularly to keep from developing type 2 diabetes. Wagoner says portion sizes are also a contributing factor.
